Ben Ashby, was born and raised in Utah as the son of a Concrete Man Father and an Artist Mother. Summer work from a young age was spent around many jobsites, cleaning trowels and picking up tools. At the age of twelve he began working full time through the summers working with his father who would only run one crew to keep the quality of the concrete high. At 15 years of age Ben began a work study program where he was able to leave school after lunch to work in concrete the rest of the day and continued this on through his high school years. Ben always planned a career in concrete starting directly out of high school. When Weber State University approached Ben with a Music scholarship to play Bass for their touring band, a tough choice had to be made. Taking the scholarship and free schooling, Ben spent two and a half years taking classes and touring with the band. The opportunity took Ben to many places performing in a USO show, including Korea, Philippines, Okinawa, Guam, Diego Garcia, Alaska, Spain, Italy Greece, Turkey, Sardinia and others. Playing for the military was a great experience and one he will always cherish.

Working until his 22nd birthday with his Father, Ben decided to spend the winter in Arizona. Finding work the first day there, Ben worked with The Same company for 19 ½ years. During this time Ben played around on the side with concrete countertops. Mainly looking for a medium to explore his creative side, Concrete was the only thing he really was proficient at.
Experimenting at first and finally streamlining into a look that gave a natural earthy feel as opposed to all the high polish and shine that was seen on the market then and still today. Creating his own mix designs and trying dozens of sealers he came across a working combination that gave the look and feel he and many others desired.
After talking with several people at The World Of Concrete in 2006, and showing pictures of his work, he was given several job offers to join National companies to market the look. None of the offers seemed to fit however and Ben went back home with the idea in mind to simplify the artistry in the system so that it could be taught. Going back to the World of Concrete in 2007, Ben approached all that would listen and look at the pictures. Ultimately he received a total of 5 offers to join in with different businesses, 3 of them national well known companies.
Just as a curiosity Ben Stopped a gentleman with a Concrete Solutions coat on in the Artistry in Concrete section, since some of the products used were from concrete solutions. Not thinking of an alliance with them but to simply show them the cool things that could be done with their products. Upon introducing himself to Gerry Sadleir, VP of Concrete Solutions, and Gerry seeing the photos of the unique countertops, planning began almost immediately to create an avenue to bring these unique countertops to the masses.
